Chapter Newsletter: February 2006
Election of Officers
The next meeting of the Northern Virginia Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk
Driving will be held at 7:00 pm, Tuesday, March 28, 2006, at the chapter office: 5881 Leesburg
Pike, Suite 500, Falls Church, VA 22041. The primary purpose of the meeting will be to elect
the chapter officers for the Fiscal Year 2006-2007.
The nominating committee has proposed a slate of candidates to run for the chapter offices.
These nominations are:
Laura Dawson, President/State Organization Representative
Laura is a long-term member of MADD having joined after her 18-year-old
son was killed in a drunk driving crash on Memorial Day 1999. She
participates in Victim Impact Panels and is a member of the MADD NoVA
Speakers Bureau. She is currently the chapter's State Organization
Representative and representative to the Fairfax ASAP Policy Board and
is a certified Victim Advocate.
Peggy Bunce, Vice-President
Peggy is a long-term member of MADD and has been an active volunteer
for MADD NoVA for more than six years. She has volunteered at the MADD
Designated Driver booths at both Vintage Virginia and the Virginia Wine
Festival and has been a volunteer at several Red Ribbon Runs. She is
a retired Fairfax County Public School teacher and is an active
community volunteer.
Tom Packard, Secretary/Treasurer
Tom is a long-term member of MADD and has been a major supporter of
MADD NoVA for more than six years. He has volunteered to lead the crew
to clean and maintain the chapter's Crashed Car Trailer and has volunteered
for the MADD Designated Driver booths at Vintage Virginia. He is also the
volunteer leader of the course setup crew for the Red Ribbon Run. He has
an extensive background which includes considerable service to his community.
We hope that you will be able to attend this most important meeting. So that
we can properly prepare for the number of attendees, please call the chapter
office at 703-379-1135 by Tuesday, March 21st, if you plan to attend.
We have two urgent volunteer needs.
1) One of the things that MADD can do in our community is to keep the
public involved in the judicial process regarding drunk driving
offenders. If you are able to spend one morning per week observing
the judicial process in action, we will train you to be a MADD Court
Monitor. The primary requirements are the ability to attend daytime
court sessions and be willing to submit the necessary reports. 2) The
number of requests for MADD speakers has been increasing
tremendously. If you are an injured or bereaved victim of drunk
driving and would be willing to consider telling others your story, we
will provide support and training. Please call us at 703-379-1135
to discuss how you can help.
