Election of Officers
The next meeting of the Northern Virginia Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving will be held at 7:00 pm, Thursday, March 17, 2005, at the chapter office: 5881 Leesburg Pike, Suite 500, Falls Church, VA 22041. The primary purpose of the meeting will be to elect the chapter officers for the Fiscal Year 2005-2006.
The nominating committee has proposed a slate of candidates to run for the chapter offices. These nominations are:
Pat O’Connor, President
Pat has been an active member of MADD NoVA since 2004. Pat joined MADD after his son was killed by a drunk driver in May 2002. He has participated in Victim Impact Panels and has been a speaker at community events. He is currently actively assisting with planning and fundraising for the 2005 MADD NoVA Golf Tournament. He has an extensive background in dealing with news media, elected officials and community groups.
Jeff Levy, Vice President
Jeff has been an active member of MADD NoVA since 1998. He joined MADD after his son was killed in a drunk driving crash while attending college. Jeff is currently the President of Virginia College Parents and is the MADD Virginia State Legislative Liaison. Jeff is currently the chapter’s State Organization Representative and participates in Victim Impact Panels.
Jessica Wexler, Secretary/Treasurer
Jessica has been an active member of MADD NoVA since 1999. She is presently serving on the Board of MADD NoVA as the Secretary/Treasurer. She is also the chapter’s Web master and is the person who originally designed the www.maddnova.org Web site. She has also participated in Victim Impact Panels.
Steve Talpins, State Organization Representative
Steve has been an active member of MADD NoVA since 2004 when he moved to Northern Virginia. Steve has an extensive background in working with drunk driving victims. He served 12 years as a prosecutor in Miami, FL, specializing in DUI prosecutions. He was the keynote speaker at the 2003 Candelight Vigil and served as an at-large member of the MADD board in Florida. He is currently the Director of the National Traffic Law Center. He is also the Chair of the Communications Committee.
