Speakers Available
Does your school, club, business or group need a meeting speaker.
MADD has a very active Speakers' Bureau which provides dynamic
speakers to audiences throughout Northern Virginia. These speakers can
discuss MADD and drunk driving issues before groups of all ages from
elementary school students to senior citizens. Multimedia and video
presentations are also available. For information or to schedule a speaker,

FREE Victim Assistance -- Available 24 hours/day
If you are a victim of drunk driving in need of assistance, please call our office
at 703-379-1135. If you get no answer, please call MADD's toll-free help line
at 1-877-MADD-HELP to speak immediately with a counselor who is ready to help you.
Victim Impact Panels
Although MADD Northern Virginia provides speakers for victim impact panels, we neither schedule
them nor do we do any of the paperwork or administration. If you have been court ordered to
attend a MADD Victim Impact Panel (sometimes called a MADD VIP, MADD Victims Panel, MADD class, or MADD meeting),
you need to call these locations for information and to register: Alexandria ASAP: 703-838-4266;
Bull Run ASAP: 703-369-7979; DC RID: 301-890-7993; Fairfax ASAP: 703-279-2600;
Fauquier County Adult Court Services: 540-349-3138; and Loudoun Adult Community Corrections: 703-777-0207.

13th Annual MADD Red Ribbon Run
5K Race on December 31, 2007
The MADD Red Ribbon Run was held on the GMU campus in Fairfax. More than 700 runners
finished the race.

- In 2005 in the U.S., there were 43,433 total traffic fatalities and of those, nearly 13,000 involved a driver with an
illegal blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher. (NHTSA, 2006)
- Research shows that 88% of the public supports .08 BAC as the per se illegal drunk
driving limit. (NHTSA, 2006)
- In Virginia alone in 2005, 322 persons were killed in alcohol-related crashes (34% of total
traffic deaths). (VA DMV, 2006)
- About three in every ten Americans will be involved
in an alcohol-related crash at some time in their lives. (NHTSA, 2001)
- In 2001, more than half a million people were injured in crashes where police reported
that alcohol was present -- an average of one person injured approximately every
two minutes. (Blincoe, Seay et al., 2002)
- Impairment is not determined by type of drink, but rather by the amount of alcohol
ingested over a specific period of time. (IIHS, June 2003)
- Drunk driving is the nation's most frequently committed violent crime, killing
someone nearly every 30 minutes. (NHTSA, 2003)
- Approximately 1.4 million drivers were arrested in the U.S. in 2005 for DUI. (NHTSA, 2006)
