Crashed Car Trailer Exhibit Update
The MADD Northern Virginia Crashed Car Trailer Exhibit was formally
presented to the public — complete
with artwork and signage — in November 2004 — the East Coast's first Crashed
Car
Trailer Exhibit. There are five other similar exhibits in California
and
each is seen by approximately one million people annually.
Encased in a trailer with windows on three sides is a pickup truck that
was
crashed by a drunk driver. Prior to the crash, the truck was being
driven
at speeds in excess of 75 mph before colliding with a tree, killing the
passenger.
The demolished vehicle in this exhibit is attention-getting by itself,
but
the details in the storyboard (a redacted copy of the actual police report) and
the actual photographs (not gory) from the crash
scene make the impact more realistic and poignant.
MADD's Crashed Car Trailer Exhibit is available to schools, law enforcement
agencies
and other venues for display. Because of its popularity, we recommend that you notify
us as early as possible of your interest in
displaying the exhibit. Reservations are made on a modified first-come/first-served
basis. Priority is
given to schools and law enforcement agencies in the Northern Virginia area but once an
activity is "confirmed" by
our office, it will not be "bumped" by another requestor. For details on the exhibit's
availability policy and to make a reservation,
please call the MADD office at 703-379-1135. Click here for more
information about requesting the trailer and to obtain the necessary forms.
