Court Monitor

Other Opportunities
We need court monitors in all courthouses in Northern Virginia, especially Fairfax and Arlington Counties, and Alexandria City.

Ensure that drunk driving offenders are punished to the fullest extent of the law by monitoring court cases and reporting outcomes to the community and media.

Court monitoring is a vital link in MADD's mission to end tragedies caused by substance-impaired driving. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, court monitoring of DUII (Driving Under The Influence Of Intoxicants) cases by volunteer citizen groups, such as practiced by MADD, can be effective in increasing the likelihood of convictions, decreasing the likelihood of dismissals and, in repeat offenders cases, increasing the length of jail sentences.

Court monitors come from all walks of life. Ranging in age from 18 to 85, these dedicated volunteers bring a diverse array of experience to the court room. They are not legal experts. In fact, many court monitors have never set foot in a courtroom prior to working with MADD. With the help of a comprehensive training manual, and on the job training, these everyday citizens become well versed in DUI laws and the criminal justice procedure.

Volunteers are the backbone of the court monitoring program. MADD knows this and takes every step to ensure that each and every volunteer has a good experience with our organization. In addition to positive feedback and a supportive environment, we provide mileage and parking reimbursement so that volunteer court monitors will experience no out of pocket expenses.

If you are interested in becoming a court monitor please contact MADD (703) 379-1135.
